Title Of Article :
The Investigation of Elementary School Students’ Mathematics Anxiety
Abstract :
In this study, elementary school students’ mathematics anxiety levels were analyzed according to various variables. The research sample consists of 266 students, including 145 male and 121 female students that have been randomly chosen from 6-8th grades of 5 different elementary schools. Mathematics Anxiety Scale, consisting of 10 items, was used to measure the math anxiety level of students. Descriptive statistical methods and inferential statistical methods such as t-tests, one way ANOVA and Pearson product-moment correlation coefficients were used to analyze the research data. Results showed that there is a negative mid-sized correlation between math anxiety and mathematics success of elementary students. On the other hand, the anxiety level of 8th grade students was found to be significantly higher than 6th and 7th grade students’ anxiety levels. However, no statistically significant difference between the math anxiety levels of students due to gender has been observed.
