Abstract
The theory of expressionism is based on the fact that the literary text narrates the author of the text. According to this theory, it is possible to observe the sorrow, happiness and subconscious of the author in his work.Mother-child relationship is meaningful in this sense. Authors who have lost their mother at a young age depict their longing towards mother in their poems. Poets use some symbols doing this. Grave is one of them. According to Jung grave is the symbol for mother. A. Murray explains the desire for death and going to grave as the ‘desire to return mother’s womb’.İsmail Safa, Tevfik Fikret, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar who have lost their mothers at young age express their longings through writing poems for their graves.
