Abstract :
This study will investigate Ahmet Adnan Saygun from a musical point of view first as a composer, then with regards to the music techniques of his age, which he used, and also by revealing the methods of composing he applied in his work. Saygun is one of a handful of Turkish composers who were able to create works of the same value in each form of music. He is also an ethno-musicologist, researcher of folk cultures and arts, music educator, and finally, a writer. Saygun has affected Turkish music to a substantiable degree through his many endeavors; and more specifically, he has obtained widespread recognition following the staging of the Yunus Emre Oratorio in Paris in 1947. He has matured with Yunus Emre and Kerem, found new perspectives with İnsan Üzerine Deyişler, and reached his personal top with Gilgamesh.
