  • Abstract
George Orwell, who is one of the leading literary figures of contemporary English novel, is famous for his works which bear a political tone. Burmese Days, one of Orwell’s outstanding novels, is not only a narrative of Burma’s historical past, but a sociological document in which cultural and social characteristics of the country are reflected. This study examines colonized Burma with respect to the traditional English pub called The European Club, and double –colonization of Eastern Burmese women in the light of postcolonialist discourse with particular reference to Spivak’s critical stance questioning male-centered philosophy.
