Abstract :

Malatya/Arguvan has an important place in Turkish folk music repertory/doctrine in national scale with specific features (dialect, tone, larynx etc.) they developed and its folk song and unmetered folk song. Moreover, with the effect of Alewi/Bektashi belief which is dominant in the region, folk music culture of the region is shaped and becomes prominent with unique characteristics. In this sense, it is possible to say that instruments used in the region become prominent with specific organologic and performance/tone features by developing various characteristics. In the research; various comprehensive studies were carried out in order to determine organology and performance characteristics of the instrument generally called Dede Sazı in the region which is developed especially by Alewi society in Arguvan region and has an important place/value in Cem meetings. According to the studies, it was concluded that the instrument called Dede Sazı in Arguvan region has 12 pitches and 3 strings and played with various finger strikes without using plectrum, various symbolic meanings are attributed to this instrument, Sİ flat 2 strings are sharper compared to the saz in bağlama family, called as balta saz due to sharp lines (conical) of its tank (voice reservoir), this instrument is also named as Axe Edged Sinemil Saz in the region since it was generally made by saz makers living in Arguvan/Sinemil village.
