Abstract :
The people who experienced population exchange, which occured in 1923, between the Turkish and Greeks, were, also, the major creators of their tangible and intangible cultural data in Anatolia. Among them, architectural forms of tangible data represent the embodied visual images of the relationship between culture and space. Although the best known example of such kind of data is Kayaköy, presenting a section of other uncommon examples of the same data, which can be protected for now but is increasingly exposed to deformation and destruction through the Central Anatolia, constitute the scope of this paper. Such a scope will manifest the relationship between space and culture, and architectural work and archetype which makes these spaces valuable, apart from having the aim of documentation of architectural information. Accordingly, rural settlements which are situated on the foothills of Mount Erciyes and composed a sequence of villages around a triple system of valleys are chosen as work area. The main idea of this case study is the images of archetype which provide similar spatial continuity and contextual consistency around the same cultural context. These archetype images which are found in the built environment, appear within various spatial organizations. Thus, they generate same contexts on the sequence of villages. In other words, the relationship among culture-space-archetype, which is the source of spatial continuity and contextual consistency, is the main research question and spatial reading of this relationship with Pattern Language is the method for revealing the embedded architectural information. Instead of producing certain consequences in such a spatial reading which is done by Pattern Language, making implications about space which is evolved by culture is an accurate approach. Thus, this text is finished on the basis of archetypes which contribute to the formation of space.
