Abstract :
In Islamic Turkish literature, one of the most important literary forms concerning Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is mawlid. More specifically, mawlids are about the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), and the emergence of mawlid as a separate literary form most probably took place in early 15th century. Although Süleyman Çelebi almost single-handedly dominated the genre with his Vesîletü’n-Necât (The Path to Salvation), other mawlids were also written, and one of the earliest mawlid examples in Turkish literature belongs to Muezzin Kemal of Hagia Sophia. Muezzin Kemal wrote Mawlid al-Nabi, which has only one copy and is presented for the first time in this study, in 1439.This study presents and examines Kemal’s Mawlid, compares it with Süleyman Çelebi’s Vesîletü’n-Necât in terms of form and content, and provides a transcription of its text based on the single copy discovered .
