Title Of Article :
Evaluation of success of dentist and dental technician color match by using VITA Toothguide 3D-Master Scale
Abstract :
Objectives: Due to the technological development and improvements in materials, shade matching is getting easier. Even though VITA Toothguide 3D-Master has a wider range than Vitapan Classical, it is still not commonly used in clinical dentistry. The aim of this study was to assess the shade matching ability of dentists and dental laboratory technicians with Toothguide 3D-Master shade guide. Methods: 10 different shade tabs were randomly selected from Toothguide 3D-Master and were replaced with maxillary incisors in the phantom models. The observer groups of 7 dentists who have PhD degrees in prosthetic or restorative dentistry (PhD), PhD students (PS) and 5 dental technicians (DT) were asked to match shades using another 3D-Master shade guide. CIE L*a*b* color differences (ΔE) between master tooth guide shades and matched shades were calculated with a spectrophotometer. ΔE values were classified according to the clinical acceptance thresholds. The color match success of groups was calculated in percentages and statistical differences between the groups were analyzed with Chi Square test. Results: The success of the correct shade match rate of the observers was 27,5%. The success for PhD, PS and DT groups were 20%, 25% and 34%, respectively. 44,17% of ΔE value was in the clinical acceptable range (ΔE 3.5). No significant difference was found among the groups (P 0.05). Conclusions: The results of this study warrant the need for further experience of dentists and dental laboratory technicians with the use of Toothguide 3D-Master in routine clinical dentistry.
