Postpartum cardiomyopathy characterized by refractory ventricular fibrillation
Abstract :
Postpartum cardiomyopathy is an uncommon disease and the cause is unknown that affects women in the last month of pregnancy or within the first five months after delivery. In the etiology of the hormonal disorders, coronary spasm, viral, autoimmune and idiopathic myocarditis, hypertension, apoptosis, genetic, inflammatory cytokines, activation of the hypotheses considered. It is associated with high mortality (range from 25 to 50%). In this case report we discussed the case of a 25-year-old woman who had admitted to the intensive care unit with symptoms of palpitations and shortness of breath and suffered from resistant VF attacks. We reported that transvenous temporary pacemaker, intra-aortic balloon pump support, and successful heart transplantation orthotropic in this case.
