Abstract :

It is known that the painting “The Last Supper” has frequently been scrutinized especially by the Renaissance artists. This issue is crucial in terms of religion since it is the last supper that Jesus had with his disciples and it depicts what Jesus experienced following that night. In this article the studies of the painting “The Last Supper” with various prospects by the prominent artists in art history are studied. The artists assert their own comments, theory of composition, techniques and style differences. The earliest painting of “The Last Supper” goes back to 14th century, Gothic Age. The work of art which reflects the usual style characteristics of Gothic Age also comprises lots of art-related problems that cannot be solved. Renaissance artists from 15th and 16th century tried to solve these problems. It is observed that Leonardo, one of the master artists of this age, focused heavily on these problems and solved them in general. Tintoretto gave one of the most competent examples of the Baroque Period, “The Last Supper” especially by breaking the rules belonging to Renaissance Age to show his style difference in 16th-17th century. This research is aimed at studying the understanding and style differences of the studies ongoing for centuries based on The Last Supper by analyzing the works of art of various artists.
