Abstract :
In the last half of the 15th Century, a particular explosion of travel book publication in Europe occurred regarding the discovery of the Eastern societies. One of the primary sources of the Ottoman costume depictions were from these travel book publications describing the Ottoman individual. These costume books occurred in the last half of the 15th century had described the dress habits and traditions of the Ottoman Empire. However, it is clear that some depictions of costumes in those catalogues dating from the 16th and 17th centuries have been drawn from an Orientalist point of view. Those catalogues of clothing and costumes, with some imaginary exceptions, as important reference sources for the historical textile and dress culture researches were still very valuable sources on depictions of costumes that have disappeared long time ago. In that study, the costume books occurred after the increasing interest and curiosity of western cultures will be the main focus. In that sense, selected books related 16th century and further years as valuable dress history sources will be discussed in this research.
