Abstract :
The imagery of women has been represented in art works throughout history; however until the 20th century it had been processed through the eyes of men. After the Renaissance, female artists started using their real names while performing their art. It was not until the woman movements in the 18th-19th centuries, driven by individuality and originality concepts, during which they gained respect and had their voice heard by the society at large. To what extent has this awareness experienced by the artists and their ability of expressing themselves reflected on the women in society? This article analyzes the woman who has been objectified in the pleasure oriented consumer culture through the creation process of the dance piece “Lady of Diamonds” (Karo Kadın), which has been created and performed by two female artists. During the material research and compilation process of the work, Pina Baush’s method of asking questions has been used. Via this method, the choreograph dancers have brought to stage the answers they have found using improvisations and their memories. The answers that have surfaced during the rehearsals and that have been brought to stage have been analyzed through intellectual research and comparisons with various art works and movements. As a result of these assessments, this article presents an inquiry into the existence of women within social relations and the path of change during this inquiry.
