Abstract :
Rose was one of the most important flowers in the Ottoman palace. A lot of rose species had been grown in the garden of the palace The interest to old roses tended to decrease with westernization at Sultan II. Mahmud period (1808-1839). Then, new varieties introduced from Europe took place of old roses. However, some old garden roses continued existence in some region of Anatolia such as Van until today. In this study, propagation ability of some old garden roses in Van home garden, which tending to disappear, by different types cutting was examined. For this purpose, green (July 15), semi-wood (September 15) and wood cutting (December 15) taken at different time were used. The cuttings were planted rooting table filled with perlite after treated with 0(control), 1000, 1500 and 2000 ppm IBA. In green and half wood cutting, misting system was used. In wood cuttings, bottom heat was made. 90 days after planting, percentage of rooting, root length and diameter, and the number of root per cutting were determined. In the result of the study, no root and callus formation were observed in green and semi-wood cutting. In the wood cutting, the highest rooting ratio (53.3%) was obtained from R. chinensis var. minima cutting treated with 2000 ppm IBA. The rooting ratio of wood cuttinf of R. x damascena var. semperflorens reached to 42% with 2000 ppm IBA treatment. On the other hand, the rooting percentages in R. x damascena, R. laxa var. harputensis, R. alba semiplena, R. hemispharica were very low even in IBA treatment.
