The Effects of Immigration on Van’s Agriculture
Abstract :
Migration is the movement of individuals from somewhere to another. Migration occurs by economic, politic and social reasons. There has been a continual migration from eastern region because of economical factors, unemployment and safety problems in Turkey. Migration is one of the important factors which affects agriculture. Some factors such as the development of modern agricultural methods, fragmentation of agricultural lands and safety are important factors causing migration of agricultural employees. In this study, the cause of migration movements which occurred in Van city and its counties during the last 25 years and the effects on the agricultural workers were investigated The data of the study was obtained from Van city center and districts by survey. There is 1699 individuals (study subject) in this study. The 31,6% of this individuals were denoted to emigrated from rural to urban. The 68,4% of this individuals were denoted to not emigrated. The 40% of people who migrated to city center of Van denoted that they had dealt with farming before the migration. In this study, it was determined that unemployment and security most important factors of the migration in Van and its districts.
