مرکز منطقه ای اطلاع رساني علوم و فناوري - Determination of Production Possibilities of Strawberry Runner Plants in Van Ecological Conditions

Abstract :

This study was performed using the strawberry cultivars ‘Aromas’, ‘Camarosa’, ‘Sweet Charlie’ and ‘Selva’. The strawberry plants were planted for production of runner plants under growing conditions of open field, low plastic tunnel and high plastic tunnel. The yield and quality characteristics of runner plants were determined. In the trial of runner plant production, the number of runner plants had a higher average with 14.20 plant^-1 in the open field conditions. Based upon the cultivars,‘ Camarosa’ had a higher average of runner plant number with 13.39 plant-1.The rate of first quality runner plant was obtained from the open field conditions with 36.90%. The rate of the first quality runner plant was 38.15% for ‘Sweet Charlie’. The root length, dry matter contents of runner plants were positively influenced under high tunnel conditions while their total carbohydrates, total sugar and starch contents were negatively affected by the protected cultivation. The cultivars significantly differed by the rate of dry matter, total carbohydrate rate, total sugar and starch contents of runner plants. All data indicated that runner plant production of strawberry could be rather successful in Van ecological conditions.
