Mutations in Grapevines and Mutant Vitis Vinifera L. Varieties
Abstract :
Mutations are defined as hereditary changes in the DNA sequence. Since Vitis vinifera L. cultivars are populations that have been propagated vegetatively over long periods, it is accepted that they have a high accumulation of mutations. Mutation breeding plays an active role in the change of one or more important traits of grapevine. Spontaneous and induced mutations are also highly important in terms of development of new cultivars. In this article, mutation breeding studies in viticulture, and literature about mutant Vitis Vinifera L. grape cultivars were presented.
