Pied Colour in Horses
Abstract :
In this study various kinds of pied coat colour of horse were studied although pied colour is a minor amount of all horses colour. Horse coat colour is called as don. Don is a one of the main factor of defining a horse. Horse coat colour can be determinative factor to select a horse by horse breeder, even though coat colour is useless factor of horse performance. It was especially important in old times when horse measurement tools could not be used. Pied colours are always an attractive in different horse colours. In this study colour patterns of Tobiano, Overo, Tovero ve Appaloosa and other colour patterns were studied. Although coloured horses are seldom in Turkish horse population, a group of coloured horse which are raised in provinces of Ardahan and Kars was mentioned about in this study.
