Abstract :
The aim of the study was to determine the genetic structure of fiber quality traits in the population created from forty five double cross F1 generation, using the double cross breeding method; to determine the suitable parents according to the fiber quality traits and cross combinations for six genotypes of cotton varieties, five G. hirsutum L. and one G. barbadense L. This study was carried out in 2008-2010 at the trial area of the GAP International Agricultural Research and Training Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and to help the traits breeding researches. According to the study, with respect to the fiber length and fiber fineness in the formed population, it can be seen that additive and epistatic gene effects (additive x additive, additive x dominant); in terms of the fiber strength and short fiber index the additive, dominant and epistatic gene effects (dominant x dominant and additive x additive x additive); with respect to spinning consistency index, the additive, dominant and epistatic gene effects (additive x dominant) were effective. It was concluded that the genotypes of the Delcerro and Giza-75 in terms of the traits of fiber length, short fiber index and spinning consistency index; genotypes of the Nazilli-84S, Delcerro and Giza-75 in terms of the fiber fineness; genotypes of the Paum-15, Stoneville-468, Delcerro and Giza-75 in terms of fiber strength might be used as a parent in the cotton breeding programs.
