Abstract
Khans and arcades of the XIX. century are the special structures built in Beyoğlu in the process of westernization in terms of floor, system, materials and architectural elements which are not seen in İstanbul, even in Turkey. As well as that the effects of the foreign architects are seen on many architectural structure, and innovation in XIX. century, same effect is seen on arcades of Beyoğlu. Beyoğlu has equipped with structures which have Neo-classical, Eclectic and Art Nouveau-style by some native and foreign architects such as Balyans, Fossati Brothers, Smith, Vallaury, d Aranco, Barborini and Mongeri in XIX. century. Resulting from this case and as a result of official policy developed in this direction, naturally, western figures have been used on details on frontispiece of buildings in the region that wins a new identity. Caryatids, anaglyphic busts and masks which have ancient origin in these figures find application field in Neoclassical style and they are reevaluated in the art of sculpture of Ancient Greek mythology.
