THE BRONZE AMPHORA OF PARION
Abstract :
In 2005, Bronze Amphora subject for this study was found in the second of cist graves in E 4c process in the Southern Necropolis of the Parion Ancient City. Skeleton in the grave at the level of the knees, one of the amphora lids which was lying on its side, its handles, Eros captured from the base of the reliefs under the handles at the side, the base of the tomb were all decayed. 34 cm high Amphora which was understood that it was placed as urne in the grave was made with die casting and repousse technique. Six figures consist of three Bacchae and three Satyr which were dancing Dionysos on the main stage at a ceremony have been seen. Eros figures remark their detailed labors in handles. In the light of the comparison samples, the other findings from TSM 2 seem to support from the late 4th century BC, which was proposed for date of the Bronze Amphora of Parion.
