Abstract :
Sevkü’l-Askerî is an important manuscript in that it contains information about the conquest of Yemen by the Ottoman Empire. This manuscript was written by Mustafa Hami who served the Ottoman Army as a young doctor. What makes Mustafa Hami s book so authentic is his colorful black and white drawings. These pictures are valuable in that they reflect a panoramic view of a military operation conducted in 1849. In those days, lack of photography techniques contributes to the drawings a different value as a case report. In this study,Sevkü’l-Askerî was treated for the first time as a research in the Turkish literature and we try to shed light on its importance. Another theme of this study is the scientific treatment of the drawings. The drawings will be examined in terms of traditional Turkish arts to shed light on historic case.
