Abstract
There are numerous artefacts in the museums of our country which have been inherited through various ways. Tokat Museum, among all other museums, attracts attention with its rich coin collection. Most of the coins in Tokat museum belong to the ancient cities of Pontus region. Within the scope of this study, 56 Roman period Pontus Provincial coins have been examined. The highest number of coins belongs to Neokaesareia, one of the cities of Pontus, and it is followed by Sebastopolis, Amaseia, Zela, Komana, Trapezus. These coins all of which are bronze were coined in the period starting from Traianus (98-117 A.D.) and Gallienus (253-268 A.D.). Provincial coins in Tokat Museum represent the cultural, political and economic structure of the period, and these coins are evidences of the fact that Pontus region had a significant place in the history of Anatolia during Roman period.
