Abstract :
Academician I. A. Orbeli, in 1911, when he travelled to Van, stopped in Bayburt province located on his way to Van, and carried out some examinations in Bayburt castle. He took three photographs showing bastions and inscriptions of the citadel. He then, after years, gave these photographs to L.T. Guzalyan, who then carried out some studies about these photographs. Having viewed them from an epigraphic perspective, L.T. Guzalyan compared his decipher form to those of carried out by Max van Berchem in 1907, Abdurrahim Şerif Beygu in 1936 and to that present in 10th volume of series called “Répertoire chronologique d’epigraphie arabe” published in Cairo in 1939 respectively and, offered his own remarks on the inscriptions. He emphasized the fact that 1, 4 and 5 numbered inscriptions for the first time had been published by him. Considering the fact that some of the inscriptions are not extant already and photographs dating from 1911 has been for the first time published, epigraphically analyzed, this article is of great importance for research activities of Bayburt castle.
