Abstract :
Erzurum, which is one of the most important settlements of the Eastern Anatolia Region, is the entrance gate of Anatolia to the east and is a city with historical, military, national and geographical strategic importance. Having hosted many civilizations within the history of settlement for thousands of years and having the traces of these cultures, Erzurum has a rich cultural heritage including monumental, military and civil architectural products. The monumental structures such as inns, hammams, madrasahs and mosques belonging to the period of principality, Seljuk State and Ottoman Empire and military constructions such as fortresses and basins have been built for centuries by challenging the time-consuming effects of architectural solutions, materials and construction techniques developed in accordance with special climatic conditions they stand. On the other hand, very few of the traditional Erzurum houses, which have less strength than the other monumental constructions, or which have been damaged more quickly due to various reasons such as abuse, destruction and abandonment, have reached to daylight. Existing constructions are far from creating a traditional Erzurum houses texture. In this context, revitalizing the streets, one of the most important components of traditional touch in historical circles, is one of the methods used to bring cultural heritage to life. This study aims to present the process of design and construction of the “Erzurum Culture and Art Street”, consisting of traditional Erzurum houses and monumental buildings, in the entrance section of Nenehatun National Park, which is located on Erzurum-Ağrı interurban road, designed by Atatürk University Architecture and Design Faculty on behalf of the 13th Regional Directorate of Forestry and Water Affairs.
