The Relation Between the Population Aging and Economic Growth: An Analysis for Turkey
Abstract :
This paper has theoretically examined the relation between population (general), population (old people), and economic growth, and has analyzed the demograph-ic change in Turkey’s population rather in the context of the phenomenon of aging. Hence, the change in the age structure of Turkey’s population has been identified, and its relationship with economic growth has been analyzed in the context of factors affect-ing growth. The findings have showed that Turkey’s population displays aging tenden-cy, albeit not as much as in developed countries. This denotes that Turkey still has an advantage of a powerful workforce for a strong growth. Besides, there stands a possi-bility that the factors such as aging, expectations from life, decreasing fertility, and increase in well-educated individuals might have positive effect on Turkey’s economic growth as well.
