Abstract :
The growing importance of information is one of the main features of the re-structuring process that has begun of the crisis of capitalism in the 1970s. Therefore, some scholars argue for the birth of information society, where wealth is created by processing information that unlike the industrial societies, is the main source of wealth. However, it is also emphasized that such conceptualization of social transformation un-derpins a discourse distorting the social reality in favor of capital and effecting strongly political processes. In this article, information society discourse will be explored in its manifestations on EU policy papers. The main assumption of the article is that infor-mation society discourse, with its ideological significations, is orienting people to think and to act in a certain way and this is extremely important in order to understand sus-tainability of capitalism in contemporary conditions.
