Abstract :
Family firms have an important place at economy. When viewed from this aspect, these firms should be carefully analyzed and their problems should be solved. One of the important problems that the family businesses have is nepotism. The aim of this study is analyzing the effect of practicing nepotism at family businesses on the staffs who are not a family member. Data was gathered by questionnaire method. The research is carried on 130 administrators and workers who work at family firms operating in Trabzon and are not family members. Results of this study shows that nepotism has negative effect on the employees not being family members. As the nepotism arise the employees’ job stress rise up; their job satisfaction, trust on the employer and belief in operating justification decrease. This leads to weakening of the employees’ performance and rising of their intention to quit.
