Abstract :
The new economic order has made development with decentralized development policies impossible and necessitated using regional development policies based on local authorities’ governance. In this respect, Turkey has had the chance to get acquainted with regional development policies within the process of full membership to the European Union. The present study assesses the utility of rural tourism in suburban development within the framework of EU accession process and developmental schemes After all, Turkey has a rich potential in terms of rural tourism. However, in order to make the most of this potential, local authorities should cooperate with local economic units, universities, non-governmental organizations in a more effective way.
