THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN INTERNAL DEBT – ECONOMIC GROWTH IN TURKEY: 1990 – 2012 PERIOD ANALYSIS
Abstract :
This paper examines the relationship of internal debt and economic growth in Turkey for the period of 1990:1-2012:12. In the paper, which uses times series data, KPSS (Kwiatkowsky-Phillips-Schmidt-Shin (1992)) unit root test is performed to stationarize the series, Maki (2012) Cointegration Test is performed to determine whether series co-move, and finally Toda-Yamamoto (1995) Causality Test is performed to identify the causality among series. According to the results of analysis, a cointegration relationship is identified between domestic debt and economic growth. Furthermore, it is found that 1 % increase in domestic debt leads to 0.04 % increase in growth. Lastly, according to the causality test, one-way causality from domestic debt to economic growth is found/identified/established.
