Abstract :

Marcion of Sinope (85-160 a.d.) is one of the important figures of the first period of Christianity. Being considered as the leader of a theological movement that came out of the first period Christian community and is determined as the heretic movement by the main group. The reason why Marcion is a known and debated figure till today is his preparation of the Luka Bible that he considered as apostolic and the Bible consisted of the “Ten Letters of Paul”. Between the four bibles that make out the actual “New Testament”, Marcion accepted only the Luka Bible as authentic; but he recomposed it and the “Ten Letters of Paul” before including them into his Corpus of sacred books. (He didn’t take them as they were but altered them). Marcion generated a special New Testament by adding a chapter of “The works of the Prophets” to these two texts. Although, the Marcion Bible didn’t reached the present day as a handwritten manuscript, there is that much saved in Tertullianus’ (160-225 a.d.) work ‘Adversus Marcionem’ (Against Marcion) of it, that it is possible to rewrite almost the whole text of the Bible. Marcion rejected the Old Testament; he claimed that the New and Old Testament are not revealed from the same God, that the God of the Jews and Old Testament is the “God of creation” and that the God perception comes up of Jesus is the “God of love and consolation”. As a member of the second period Christianity generation, after the Apostles, Marcion is a prominent personality in terms of ideas and activities he brought on. As the defender of the Paulist Perception, Marcion, stated that with the effect of Judaism and the Old Testament there were some deviations in Paulist perception. He endeavored to clean these deviations and dogma from the holly book of Christianity. As the student of “Cerdo of Syria” (death approx. 138 a.d.), Marcion, converted the Gnostic components in Paulistic percepts into a sort of asceticism and dualism.
