Abstract :
The importance of maritime sector and transportation has realized an increased significance over the years. Our world is surrounded by vast bodies of water and it is necessary that we maintain the environmental sustainability of our world’s waterways. In an effort to accomplish this task, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) was founded and regulations established. This study reviews the IMO’s activity area, work organization, recommendations, codes and conventions. It further reviews Turkey’s involvement in the IMO and the agreements they have executed.
