Abstract :
Education curriculums are organized according to constructivist paradigm, the quality of instructional environments should be designed accordingly. Learning environments based on behavioral approach are being replaced by today’s constructivists approach learning environment. Behavioral instructional approach and present constructivist learning approach possess differences in many aspects. Constructivism concentrates on the objectives, which deals with higher order thinking abilities. The current study investigates at what degree instructional settings in Turkish classes are suitable for constructivist approach. Turkish lessons provide students comprehension and narration skills as well as many thinking and social skills. In this respect, learning environment should be designed with respect to the current constructivist approach. Teachers are the one who should arrange this quality of learning environment. We collected data through interviews with teacher and classroom observations. The study is designed as a qualitative case study approach. Data were analyzed be using descriptive analysis. The results of study revealed that Turkish learning environments are dominated by behavioral approach. In discussion section, possible reasons and recommendations towards this issue are examined.
