Abstract
The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of a verification laboratory approach with laboratory instruction designed based on “Predict-Observation-Explain” (POE) strategy on pre-service science teachers’ development of conceptual achievement and attitudes in the general biology laboratory. In this study, the sample consisted of 122 pre-service teachers who took the General Biology Laboratory I course at the Pamukkale University, Faculty of Education, Department of Science Education. The research was realized in fall semester of 2007-2008 academic year. The data was obtained with instruments which include “Concept Achievement Test” related the units of photosynthesis and respiration in plants and “Attitude Test” towards biology laboratory. Results of the analyses showed that the effect of laboratory instruction designed based on POE strategy on development of conceptual achievement and attitudes toward biology laboratory
