A COMPARISON OF VIEWS OF IN-SERVICE AND PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS ON PROBLEMS OF HISTORY TEACHING AND SOLUTIONS FOR THESE PROBLEMS
Abstract :
The aim of this study is to examine the differences and similarities of pre-service and inservice teachers’ views on the difficulties of history teaching and the ways to overcome these difficulties. This is a research with descriptive purposes. Data collection tool was a Likert type of questionnaire with 28 items. Data were mainly collected in the provinces of Gaziantep and Kahramanmaraş from the in-service and pre-service teachers. Of the participants, 50 pre-service and 50 in-service teachers were randomly selected for the data analysis. The collected data were analyzed with T-test. The findings reveal that , in service teachers cite “curriculum workload” the most, while pre service teachers cite “not knowing and not using the methods and techniques” the most as a problem of history teaching.
