Abstract
SMEs are enterprises which have numerous benefits socially as well as intensively effective for the development of a country and provide a strong position to a country on global markets. Hence the development of competiveness of SMEs and to make their competitiveness sustainable constitutes important agenda items of economic programs in many countries. This paper aims to search what kinds of roles that SMEs play in international trade for acquiring competitive advantage. To achieve this goal, the qualitative research methods are used and data are collected through focus groups and expertise opinion methods.
