Abstract :
In this study it is aimed to evaluate the tasks included in the 7th grade mathematics textbook in terms of task design principles. 90 activities in the textbook which was published by Ministry of National Education in 2009 for 7th grades were examined through documentary analysis. For data analysis descriptive analysis was conducted. According to the result of this study, it was determined that tasks in the textbook are generally compatible with some principles such as aim of activity, students’ prior knowledge, required materials, the roles of student, assessment and evaluation. However, besides this, multiple start point, determining the role of teacher, and student’s misconceptions and difficulties that are important in the task design were not considered adequately. In addition, it was almost no emphasis on the use of time and the principles of class organization. In the new national curriculum it is aimed that learning areas to be enriched with activities. Therefore, tasks in the textbooks which are designed according to all task design principles will increase quality of learning, and contribute to meaningful learning.
