Abstract :
The aim of this study is to determine the effect of web based instruction on the metacognition awareness levels of learners. For this study, 86 students were selected (43 experimental group, 43 control group) in the first semester of 2008- 2009 academic year at Vali Ahmet Cemil Serhadli elementary school in the province of Diyarbakir. In this experimental study, pretest-posttest control group design was used. Prior to the experiment, it was proved that experimental and control groups were similar in terms of some variables. The experiment lasted for six weeks. In experimental group, lessons were taught via web based instruction. In control group, lessons were taught through conventional methods (explanation, questionanswers, and demonstration). The data were obtained in the study through “Metacognition Awareness Inventory” developed by Schraw ve Dennison (1994). According to research results, it was concluded that web based instruction didn’t have a statistically significant effect on the metacognition awareness levels of learners.
