EFFECTS OF PEPPER GAS ON HUMANS AND ITS EVALUATION ACCORDING TO HUMAN RIGHTS: AN APLICATION IN HATAY POLICE VOCATIONAL COLLEGE
Abstract :
The authority furnished to security forces privately is an important point that needs to be evaluated from human rights point of view. We usually face its usage, limits, and timing rather than its existence as a subject of controversy. The pepper gas and similar chemical tear-gases used in the context of the authority are considered as important armaments by security forces in every part of the world because they enable security forces to control individuals in terms of affecting the individuals’ eyes, respiratory system etc. On the other hand, some people are against the use of gases because they consider the use of gases as an contrast to human rights; therefore, they are against the use of the gases and demand a ban on it considering the use of gasses are against the health of humans. Especially, that those who inhaled pepper gas lose their lives after this makes the issue more important. In the context of this study, the definition of human rights and universal values will be explained. Then, an evaluation of the right to use the authority and to use pepper gases from human rights point of view will be performed. Also, the quality of pepper gases, its usage style, and effects will be discussed to address the criticism raised to the use of gases to control humans. In this context, the results of the study conducted on the students of Hatay police vocational college will be presented. Thus, the effects of pepper gases in the subject of human rights will be suggested.
