Abstract :
The purpose of the article is to evaluate local government’s financial structure, control mechanisms, and decision making processes in Albania, which is officially recognized by the European Union as a potential candidate country, Turkey, which holds an official candidate status to accede to the European Union, and Greece, which is a member of the European Union. In this article, local government institutions have been researched and the similarities and differences among Albania, Greece and Turkey have been identified. With respect to Turkey, the issues with local government institutions have been identified and solutions have been proposed.
