Abstract :
The aim of the study is to determine the tendency of the travel agencies in the process of selection and hiring tourist guides and to measure their attitudes about the effects of hiring the right guide. A questionnaire, which is based on the obtained theoretical information, has been developed and in order to obtain data, survey method has been used. The population of this research is the travel agencies operating within the boundaries of Istanbul and at the end of the research 96 questionnaires in total have been evaluated. At the end of this research it has been determined that the guides prefer using reference when they apply for a job, travel agencies consider the recommendations of the business workers and acquaintances when they hire the guides and the travel agencies consider the business experience and communication skills of the guides in the selection of them. The meetings with the candidate and a reference research about the past experiences of the candidate are the most preferred methods of the travel agencies in the process of employee selection. It has also been determined that the job of the guide is clearly described and the performance of the guide is evaluated during certain periods by travel agencies after the employee selection. In addition to that, it has been determined that travel agencies have developed attitudes on hiring the right guide, which mostly affects the customers and enterprise.
