Abstract
There is an increasing attention on the teaching programs which focus on the simultaneous teaching of content knowledge and the target language so as to keep up with the necessities of our age. Only if students prove having content knowledge and foreign language knowledge are they able to work in good positions and to give direction to their future much better. Content-Based Language Teaching (CBLT), which has the possibility of achieving these two goals at the same time, has been an important part of language teaching curricula lately. With the significance of this method, it is necessary to have a language teaching curriculum emphasizing the reading comprehension skills and vocabulary knowledge, which will enable students to read and understand the books and articles written in the target language which are related to their majors. The aim of this study is to analyze the vocabulary knowledge taught in the School of Foreign Languages in major public university, to compare and contrast the vocabulary items taught in the preparatory program and vocabulary they will need in their departments, and to learn about the students’ opinions related to the usability of the words they learnt in the prep class.
