VIEWS OF ACADEMICIANS ON THE EFFECT OF GLOBALIZATION ON CURRUCULUM: A QUALITATIVE STUDY
Abstract :
The aim of this study is to determine the opinions of academic staff working at the Division of Curriculum and Instruction at the Faculty of Education in Fırat and İnönü Universities about the effect of globalization on curricula. Case study design which is one of the qualitative research methods was used. Data was determined through convenience sampling. Data of the study were collected through an interview form developed by the researchers. The interview form included 5 semi-structured questions which aimed at determining views of the academic staff about the effect of globalization on curricula. Computer aided qualitative data analysis was used to analyze the data. The academic staff emphasized that globalization has affected curricula and the changes in curricula was necessary but they also reported that the renewal of the curriculum was not sufficient enough. They also stressed that the curricula should be suitable with the social values, student-centered and compatible with the changes. Besides they pointed out that globalization caused alienation.
