TEACHER CANDIDATES’ EVALUATION OF PUBLIC EMPLOYEE SELECTION EXAMINATION SUPPORT CLASSES OFFERED AT PRIVATE TEACHING INSTITUTIONS
Abstract :
The main purpose of this study was to evaluate PESE courses offered at private teaching institutions from the perspective of the teacher candidates. It is a qualitative case study. Participants were 110 teacher candidates who were last year students at Mustafa Kemal University Education Faculty’s Departments of Elementary, Turkish, English, and Art Education. The coder reliability of the study was 78%, and concordance coefficient was 83%. The main reason why these participants chose to attend a private institution was “wanting to study regularly”. They stated that the education they received was effective as it was geared solely towards PESE, there was ample repetition, and frequent practice tests were given in every subject. Of the participants, 69.09% agreed that “there should definitely be a test but its type and content should vary”. Based on these findings, it was recommended that PESE should test teachers from different branches by using questions from different fields.
