AN EVALUATION OF VOCABULARY TEACHING ON TURKISH TEACHING AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE
Abstract :
Turkish teaching as a foreign language has gained an importance in recent years. In general, Turkish is taught for foreigners in three levels as beginner, intermediate and advanced. A similar classification can be seen in Common European Framework of Reference for Languages developed for unification language teaching systems at a common point and for ensuring that individuals be able to use languages they learn to communicate with others. In the Framework, gains were given for all language skills (reading, speaking, writing, listening) at each proficiency level. To provide a common criterion across Europe, three basic proficiency levels, A (beginner), B (intermediate) and C (advanced) are determined. While teaching Turkish for foreigners, this classification is followed to ensure that individuals develop their language skills at the determined levels. The effective use of language skills and occurrence of communication in a healthy way could be possible with effective vocabulary instruction. Course books, work books and other technological materials are used while teaching Turkish as a foreign language. In this study, it is aimed to determine that the role of vocabulary instruction in teaching Turkish as a foreign language and that the methods of vocabulary instruction necessary to use and which kind of materials can be used in vocabulary instruction.
