Abstract :
The reception theory which was put forward in the second half of XXth century, has done an essential expansion by adding ‘reader’ chain to theories of critics that hesitate between ‘writer’ and ‘text’ relatively. The study- whose general aim we can describe as expressing the reception process of literary work of readers and exploring the factors determining the process -is a practical one and stands in the direction of reception theory. In the study in which 38 readers take place, the story of Memduh Şevket Esendal called ‘Bir Kucak Çiçek’ has been presented to readers by using ‘half story technique’ and it has been aimed to determine the questions asked to the participants and receptions and expectations about the story. It has been fixed that there were differences between the receptions and expectations of the readers who met the same story at the same time. That sex variable affected readers’ expectations from the text is among the findings of the study. Theoretical explanations have been done and suggestions have been expanded in the direction of the study.
