ASSESSMENT OF INSTRUCTORS AND STUDENTS’ OPINIONS ABOUT PROGRAM FOR TEACHING TURKISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE
Abstract :
The purpose of this study is to find out and evaluate the opinions of the instructors and the students about program for teaching Turkish as a foreign language. The participants of the study are the instructors teaching Turkish to foreigners and the students who are learning Turkish as a foreign language at some institutes of Ankara and İzmir city center. 10 Turkish instructors and 10 students were randomly chosen and interviewed using a semi-structured interview schedule. The reliability of the interview questions was determined depending on the experts that were consulted. The data analysis was conducted using the techniques of categorical and bottom-up analysis. Based on the results of the study, instructors and the students’ opinions parallel in many ways. For example, it was suggested by the instructors and the students that the students should always be active in the process of learning Turkish and there should be more emphasis on pronunciation and intonation. Additionally, they suggested that tests should assess each skill separately.
