CURRENT USAGE AND INTERPRETATION OF TRADITIONAL ANTAKYA HOUSES BY THEIR DWELLERS
Abstract :
Traditional Antakya houses, located between the eastern part of the Orontes River that seperates the city into two parts and Mount Habib-i Neccar (Silpius) have idiosyncratic features in view of architecture. Traditional Antakya houses have a special place in the minds and memoirs of the locals. Traditional Antakya houses are regarded as material culture elements and the changes on them within ages has been studied through the interviews with the dwellers and the residents of the houses and then it is aimed to perceive the usage and interpretation of the houses by the dwellers. Etnographic research methods were used during the study and the phenomenological research methods were used for the discourse analysis.
