Abstract :
Turkish teachers have a responsibility for teaching words. As a role model, in other words, by sharing their own vocabulary they contribute to enrichment of students’ vocabulary. In this respect, it is investigated that whether pre-service Turkish teachers’ vocabulary differ significantly depending on gender, grade level, types of education, reading in spare time, and follow at least one periodical. In this research, the pre-service Turkish teachers were asked to write a composition about a topic that they want and an autobiography. Vocabulary that was used in their written compositions has been investigated. Data gathered from 156 pre-service Turkish teachers. SCP 4.07 and SPSS 15.0 were used for analyzing the data. Findings of this research assert that students’ vocabulary doesn’t show statistically significant difference in terms of sex, reading in spare time, follow at least one periodical; shows statistically significant difference in terms of grade level and types of education.
