Abstract :
The target population of this study, which investigates the development of vocabulary set consists of 6-year-old Russian-Turkish bilingual students and 6-year-old Turkish monolingual students. These 6 -year-old students study at primary school during 2013-2014 in Muratpaşa, Antalya Province. The study groups of 30 native speakers of Turkish and 30 bilingual students of Russian-Turkish, 60 students in total. Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test is used to collect the survey data. As a result of the research, it was found that Turkish vocabularies of monolingual students are higher than Turkish vocabularies of Russian–Turkish bilingual students. In addition to that, there is no statistically significant difference between Average Turkish Vocabulary Scores for Turkish monolingual students and Russian–Turkish bilingual students by gender. Another result obtained from this research is that the score of vocabulary set for students whose mothers have university degrees higher than students whose mothers have high school degrees but it was noticed that the educational level of their fathers is not an efficiency factor on the development of vocabulary set for these students.
