Abstract :
The studies on the struggle against hazardous substances which affect the whole society are gaining importance. The studies concerning substance use also reveal the extent of the problem. According to such studies, 300 million young people are smoke addicts in the whole world. 50% of the young people who start smoking before the age of 20 continue smoking for 15-20 years. Besides, according to WHO two billion people take alcoholic drinks. Only in Europe, the use of alcohol caused more than 55.000 people between 15-29 years. Between the years 1994-2002, about 17.000 men and 3000 women started using substances. According to the results of the studies, 80% of such people are below 20. The younger one starts using substances, the higher the risk becomes taken by the user in terms of addiction. Thus, it is essential to know how common is the substance use, what the factors are causing the substance use and it is essential to try to decrease the use of such substances. In this study, it is tried to explain how common is hazardous substance use like cigarette, alcohol and drugs and to explain personal variables influencing substance use. The population of the study consists of university students studying at Bozok University during 2012-2013 academic year.
